Day in the life… Richard Wortley

Richard is one of our fantastic drivers, dedicated to delivering an outstanding customer experience each and every time a collection is made. We caught up with Richard to find out more about his role at SRCL.

What is your position and how long have you worked at SRCL?
My position at SRCL is a driver and I have worked in this role for eight years, I am based out of the Four Ashes site.

Can you tell us your main areas of responsibility?
My main responsibility as a driver is the safe collection and delivery of hazardous wastes from various customers.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?
Knowing that at the end of my shift my job has been carried out correctly, everything is complete and that the customer is happy.

Can you describe a typical day?
Getting up early around 02.30am and arriving at the workplace, I will then clean and check the vehicle, travel to customers, carry out the collection of products and then return to SRCL. It’s always a very busy day which keeps my role interesting.

What motivates you?
It’s great to see all my colleagues working as a team, to make sure the customer is always satisfied.

How do you spend your time out of work?
Resting, reading, walking, and tasting fine food and beers!

Can you tell us an interesting fact about yourself that no one would know?
My ancestors built Wortley Hall in Yorkshire and Oliver Cromwell locked up one of my ancestors into the Tower of London – it was because he was a Royalist, his name was Sir Francis Wortley.
